Your employers have a duty to ensure that your place and practices of work are safe and free from hazards.
If you work on machinery they are obliged to provide you with appropriate training on how to use it. If you are regularly lifting heavy objects then you must be given training on lifting techniques. In some instances it may even be considered that lifting equipment should be provided.
The employers also have a duty to ensure that any machinery which you use is in good working order and it should be regularly maintained.
Even if something which you do is considered common practice, and you are injured whilst doing this, your employers may still be liable to pay you compensation if they knew what was happening and it was unsafe.
Ensure that you keep receipts for any costs which you incur as a result of your accident as we may be able to recover these on your behalf.
